Pharma & Biotech Jobs Weekly Roundup - April 14, 2025
Last week (April 6 - April 13, 2025) we saw 2,153 job ads posted in the US amongst the 53 companies we track, here are a few trends that stood out.
Last Week’s Key Findings ¶
- Hiring Leaders: Abbott (321 new postings), followed by Medtronic (237 new postings) and Takeda (211 new postings).
While Abbott posted the most new job ads, their postings were down about 20% last week.
- Growing Sectors: Data Science positions showed the most growth, with a ~72% increase last week (from 25 jobs to 43).
The Growth in Data Science positions wasn’t driven by just one company, it was well distributed across the companies we track.
That’s good news! It looks like AI hasn’t taken all the computational jobs and may reflect the industry as a whole staffing up to make better use of their data. We’ll keep a close eye on the Data Science job posting trends this year.
Manufacturing and Research based roles also showed strong growth of 52% and 51%, respectively. Manufacturing was primarily driven by Abbott (42 new positions), Merck (17 new positions), and Eli Lilly (13 new positions).
Management vs. Individual Contributor Roles ¶
- Overall Split: 44.1% management vs 55.9% individual contributor positions
- Volume: 949 management roles posted (-23.0% from previous week)
- Management Focus: Apellis Pharmaceuticals posted 100.0% (!) management roles last week
Remote Work ¶
- Most remote-friendly last week: Novartis (57.1% remote)
- Industry average remains low, and didn’t change significantly last week

Overall Trends ¶
- Data Science Opportunities Expanding: Now is a good time to explore Data Science roles in pharma/biotech, with demand spread across multiple companies rather than concentrated at one employer.
