Last week was fairly typical with around 1,800 job ads posted in the US. Here are a few trends to follow as spring hiring season continues.

Last Week’s Key Findings

  • Hiring Leaders: Medtronic (251 new postings), followed by Abbott (243 new postings) and Takeda (165 new postings)

Big pharma hiring aside, Tempus AI showed the greatest increase in hiring last week, posting a 147% increase from its 8-week average (32 jobs compared to the usual weekly average of 13). Many of Tempus’s new jobs are focused on research and data science, indicating a significant investment along with last week’s launch of Olivia, the AI health concierge app.

Category Updates

Clinical Operations jobs showed the strongest growth last week (29%, 54 new jobs), while Quality & Regulatory positions dropped 37%.

Management vs. Individual Contributor Roles

  • Overall Split: 43% management vs 57% individual contributor positions
  • Volume: Management roles down 10% last week
  • Management Focus: Sarepta Therapeutics continues staffing for leadership/management roles, with 100% of posted ads for management positions

Overall, remote positions account for about 10% of the roles we track. This week, Regeneron stood out, with 83% of positions listed as remote.

Regeneron's remote jobs are primarily sales and other commercial roles

Digging in, it looks like these roles are primarily commercial, focused on HEOR (health economics and outcomes research) and sales for dermatology, gastroenterology, and pulmonary.

In general, I’m seeing a lot of scientific communications-focused positions, so I’ll be digging more into that trend next week.
