Tempus AI Gears Up Sales + Hiring Trends – May 12

Last week, 2,365 jobs were posted in the US. Here are a few key trends to keep an eye on:

Medtronic, Johnson & Johnson, and Takeda were the top three job posters last week, posting 375, 295, and 285 postings, respectively.

HHMI Administrative Hiring

As for the most significant deviations, HHMI jumped from an average of 3 jobs per week to 13, representing a 300%+ increase. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), headquartered in Chevy Chase, MD, with a primary research campus in Ashburn, VA, is a major nonprofit research institute and funder of science.

The jobs driving this spike are primarily business and administrative roles at their headquarters, such as social media, marketing, communications, and similar positions, rather than the usual scientist and postdoc roles seen in prior weeks.

Tempus AI Staffs up for Sales

In our April 28th newsletter, we highlighted a Tempus AI hiring push for AI/ML research roles. A few weeks later, it looks like they’re staffing up to sell!

Tempus AI posted 27 new positions last week compared to their 8-week average of 13. Over 70% of their active listings are now in sales and business development. Many roles are regional clinical account executive (associate level) and experienced regional sales manager positions.

Tempus beat earnings estimates last week, reporting strong growth and highlighting a partnership with AstraZeneca and Pathos to develop a new oncology foundation model. They appear to be executing on this strategy and ramping up sales for Q2.

High Management Salaries

We also noticed some high-paying management roles posted by DNAnexus last week. In Boston, they’re hiring a VP of Enterprise Communications ($275,000–$300,000), a National Account Director, Biopharmaceutical Industry ($280,000–$300,000), and a Product Marketing Director, Diagnostics & Health Systems ($195,000–$205,000).
