Pharma & Biotech Jobs Weekly Roundup - June 9, 2025

2,770 Jobs were posted last week among the 59 companies we track. Here’s what the data shows.

Last Week’s Findings

Data Science roles dominated the positions listed last week. We saw 123% increase in the number of positions focused on Data Science, for a total of 78 positions. The biggest drop was in Clinical Operations focused roles, with a 22% drop.

Looking at the data science roles posted, they were spread between AbbVie (27), BMS (10), and Johnson & Johnson (8), and 7 other companies. Most Data Science roles were Senior Leadership roles in Statistics. These senior hires typically indicate expansion plans rather than replacement hiring, so we’ll keep an eye on AbbVie and others who may be gearing up to build out new analytics teams.

Recursion’s Restructuring

Sadly, Recursion made the news this week when they announced significant layoffs affecting up to 20% of their staff. They’ve previously announced scaling back and “focusing” their pipeline in an effort to lengthen their runway and ensure their existing cash lasts through 2027.

It is always surprising (but not unusual) to see companies posting new positions right around the time of announcing layoffs. When I looked at the data, Recursion had a significant increase in their 8 week running average of job postings (though the absolute numbers were still low). These roles were exclusively management/senior leader positions, and all were focused on clinical data management, data assets, and biomarkers.

Hopefully Recursion can pull through this and build out their teams, which is likely the plan with this management hiring, but it is a tough week for our friends in Utah.
